This lovely Tastevin is made from metal. On the handle are the words MarchĂ© au Vins Beaune* – Beaune wine market. On the bottom is engraved the words S.D. 21. Perhaps the initials of the previous owner? This Tastvin measures a dia of 7.5 x h 1cm, the handle is 3 x 2.4 cm. It weighs 21 grms. A unique gift from France for the wine lovers! Postage included.
*Beaune wine is produced in the commune of Beaune in the CĂŽte de Beaune sub region of Burgundy. The Appellation d’Origine ContrĂŽlĂ©e Beaune may be used for red and white wine with respectively Pinot noir and Chardonnay as the main grape variety.
What is a Tastevin?
A historic tool used in wine making and wine tasting, the Tastevin is a small, silver cup or saucer. The cup has traditionally been used to assess the color, clarity, and maturity of wine.
In ancient times, without the advent of modern lighting, a special shallow cup was required to accurately view and judge wine. Each little bowl was multifaceted, allowing light to reflect the visual properties of the wine.
