French Silver Tastevin Christofle

A Tastevin is a tasting-cup used by sommeliers and wine-producers, according to a custom going back to the 15th century, The Tastevin is an essential utensil for winegrowers and wine tasters, Made from Inox, silver plate or solid silver, it has a raised design so that the appearance and colour of the wines, especially the reds, can be appreciated. The concavities bring out the ruby-red reflections. Sometimes, the cups have ripples and flutings, in which case the reflections take on a deeper hue. It is a tool rather than an “objet d’art” and wine people of Burgundy keep it in their pocket.
This Tastevin I am presenting is made from silver, made by the French house of Christofle. A lovely Vine leaf adorns the handle and it is still in its original box. Size of the cup is dia 8cm (w/out handle), the box is 12 x 10 x h 3.5cm. A wonderful and unique item from France for the wine enthusiasts. Postage from France included.
